While working through my Human Computer Interaction unit I was tasked to redesign the existing Manchester Metrolink application. This project introduced me to the Ten Nielsen's Heuristics and SuS testing.
Research into existing systems
To create an understanding of the existing system and where it is flawed on being user friendly, I analysed the system and tested it on five users. I asked the users to fill in a Heuristics Questionnaire that I created and a SuS test. I then analysed five other travel applications which I again tested on five users, this meant I had a strong research understanding on what works well and what doesn't.
Design development - low level prototype
Personas and navigation diagram:
Before sketching the prototypes I create two personas of a primary and secondary user and set a scenario of them using my proposed system, from here I then created a none linear navigation diagram to plan out how each screen would connect.
I created paper prototypes by analyzing the data I had gathered from the user feedback of the five other systems and choosing features that would better help the system be more user friendly. When creating paper prototypes I often use a Iphone template I find that users are more engaged with the prototype when it looks as if it's on a phone screen.
I made the paper prototype interactive by using Marvel I found that this also made users more clear on what each screen was displaying.

Design development - High level prototype
To use the prototype log in with the email "firstname.lastname@example.org" and Password "password". The prototype has been designed for planning a journey that departures from "Piccadilly Gardens" to "New Islington".
Based on the Heuristic Questionnaire and SuS feedback from the five users who tested my paper prototype, I made changes while designing my high level prototype on Axure. I aimed to show more status feedback to make the application more user friend, this was done by including different steps when purchasing ticket and a clear dialogue on how to navigate back to Home.
